Curriculum Integration

The Little USA Sustainability Club began its partnership with the Bullock County Schools STEM program in 2021. The partnership was launched by Schools Superintendent, Dr. Christopher Blair, and the district’s 4H lead, Anwar Walker.

As a middle school science teacher, Mr. Walker developed a community garden project to teach students about sustainable farming through soil evaluation and management in the heavily agricultural Black Belt region of Alabama. Little USA Community Solar Campus plans to engage students in developing an Agrivoltaic test garden/farm beneath the solar panels at our 25-acre site in Union Springs

Students at all levels will conduct research on the best crops for the environment. Little USA plans to increase its partnerships with faculty and students at nearby Auburn University and other universities in the area as well as Bullock County Schools with the participation of local STEM teachers.

The development of the Community Garden will be documented with videos, lesson plans, and resources for other teachers who want to replicate the community garden project at their schools.  Mr. Walker’s students began their project activities by conducting a soil test and evaluation through the Cooperative Extension program at Auburn University.
